Cottage Holidays
There are literally hundreds of cottages dotted throughout the UK that are available for short lets, and there are few better ways to 'get away from it all' and explore a region of Britain. Ranging from historic cottages to purpose-built properties, there are options for all budgets and tastes.
Perhaps the most interesting portfolio of holiday cottages are owned by The National Trust, the organisation that owns and manages many of Britain's historic properties and estates. The Trust have converted many estate properties, country cottages, as well as historical oddities such as towers, lighthouses, and an 18th century triumphal arch (pictured below).
The Landmark Trust also own some fascinating cottages, castles, and towers that can be rented - all proceeds go to the preservation of properties.
While in peak season (generally June to August) many cottages can be prohibitively expensive for a couple, there are also a good number that accommodate several people - a great way to split the cost. Deals are also available on 'long weekend' lets and outside of the summer months.
For more information, visit the National Trust cottages website or the Landmark Trust, and consider the cottage holiday options.
