Changing the Guard - Background

The Changing of the Guard is an impressive display of military pomp and ceremony that dates back to the reign of Henry VII. Essentially only the exchange of one shift of guards for another at Buckingham Palace, the ceremony is also performed (albeit on a smaller scale) at Horse Guards and Tower Green.

Getting There

The Mall SW1. Adjacent to St. Jame's and Green Parks; a short walk from Trafalgar Square or Piccadilly Circus.

When Is It?

The Buckingham Palace ceremony is performed at 11.30am daily from April to July, and on alternate days outside of those months.

The Tower of London ceremony is performed at 12 noon daily, and at Horse Guards at 11am daily (10am Sun).

There is no admission charge, however it pays to get there early to secure a good view.
