Bedsits and Studios
Bedsits and Studios - or open plan living areas - have become a hot item in recent years. Developers and landlords have led a trend that has seen old warehouses, churches, terraces, and similar spaces converted into often very up-market studio apartments. Many studios are in the inner-city suburbs or in converted maritime buildings along the Thames, and are therefore very handy for those that want the city on their doorstep.

Bedsits are common in the UK, and are really just one room, self-contained flats within larger houses or buildings. A typical bedsit would consist of a room with a bed, basic cooking facilities, a hand basin, and a small fridge. Few are spacious, although (as with most forms of accommodation in London) there are more expensive exceptions to the rule.
Most bedsits don't have their own bathroom, and often the only difference between a 'bedsit' and a 'studio' in the language of a landlord is this provision of this facility. There may also be communal kitchens in a bedsit premises.
Bedsits are attractive to those that prefer their own company are not planning to stay in one place for long, and are perhaps on a tight budget. While probally not cheaper than average rates for sharing a room in an established flat, most bedsit rates quoted typically include most bills, although you'll probably have an electricity meter that you will have to feed coins into to keep the supply going.
