Your Passport
Before you apply for a visa, you must ensure that you have a valid passport for the length of time you plan to be away.
Some countries also stipulate that a passport should be valid for at least 6 months before they will issue a visa. This is principally to ensure that your passport remains valid in the case of unplanned detention in the country visited through circumstance or illness.
It is often difficult and time-consuming to obtain a new passport through your Embassy or High Commission in the UK, so it makes sense to obtain a new passport prior to your departure if the passport will expire during the duration of your trip.
Your travel agent or home country immigration department can provide additional information on passports should it be necessary.
